Laboratory for Survey & Research for Development (SRD Lab), in collaboration with the Research Initiative for Social Development (RISD), is providing technical and advisory services to the Tobacco Control Data Initiative (TCDI) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This initiative aims to aggregate and facilitate access to the data needed for the design and implementation of tobacco control policies by governments in sub-Saharan Africa. TCDI is being implemented by the international non-profit organisation Development Gateway, in partnership with the University of Cape Town, with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The proposed research is expected to address the following key questions:
- What is the percentage of the illicit cigarette trade in the DRC?
- what are the origins and brands of illicit cigarettes sold in the drc?
From 01 to 03 February 2023, SRD Lab took part in the workshop to launch the study on the illicit cigarette trade in the DRC. The aim was to discuss and validate the methodology, expected deliverables and timetable for the study. We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks’ time for news about this study, whose relevance is indisputable.
